Inspirational and creative workspaces <> classrooms

NY’s upcoming Venture Voice Startup Workshop looks fantastic and similar entrepeneurship workshops in Australia will be awesome. However, when we have similar events over here I hope the workspaces for the events are more inspirational, creative, collaborative and less like a school classroom.

venue

The venue (above) looks like a hybrid between a University lecture theatre and a classroom, and is instantly reminiscent of mind-numbing academia and uninspiring training courses. Who wants to talk about entrepreneurship in such a dull environment? The Venture Voice podcast is excellent and the workshop looks brilliantly planned, but who would want to attend in this sort of setting?

Yet another strength of co-working spaces is providing workshop settings conducive to creativity, inspiration and meaningful collaboration. As for conferences that ‘got it right’ with venues, the 2006 NetSquared Conference fostered a comfortable and productive environment.

Update:

Thanks to Greg stopping by and setting the record straight we’ve now got some pics of the event! As you’ll see Venture Voice ‘got it right’ and put on a great collaborative workshop. Great job guys.

Interesting analysis, but I think that the venue’s stock photography did not do juctice for how the workshop ran. If you check out our photos you’ll see it hardly looks like we ran a typical class.

Great job Greg, and thanks for stopping by and setting the record straight. I’ve updated the post to show a couple of the pics. Looks like an awesome workshop – an excellent agenda and a great workspace.

Awesome work, looking forward to hearing about the next one.

You’re right, the stock photos didn’t do it justice! You’ll have some of your own to use next time ;)

A picture is worth a thousand words. Thanks for the update. This is a very thoughtful blog.
