After doing this ‘behind the scenes’ for a couple of years, I’m now offering WordPress consulting, setup and development as a service. This includes advice on WordPress architecture, theme selection and installation, plugin recommendations and configuration, custom theme development from PSD designs, website/blog setup and initial administration. Just about everything you’ll ever need to make your wildest WordPress wishes come true.
The How and The Why
There are so many reasons for finally making this service offering. Some of you already know this, but for those who don’t: my career in strategy and user experience design began, like many of ours did, as a designer/developer. Projects ranging from small business websites to entirely custom eCommerce applications were completed with that fuzzy satisfaction of managing every detail from start to finish. An obsession with dreamy, far-out ideas coupled with usable and functional design pushed me into digital strategy and user experience design, which are roles I continue to love. It’s just that I want a little bit more (who doesn’t?). By setting strategy, creating usable layouts and prototypes, and undertaking development all the way through to a perfectly functioning website there’s no detail overlooked. It’s so much better for everyone, especially the client. Nothing is lost in translation. All the plans and promises are delivered. Everyone wins.
It’s Now Easy for Clients
This has been a while coming. WordPress is just so incredibly flexible it can be customised into just about anything a user experience or graphic designer could hope for. The issue has always been support. The management interface was, save for a few plugin hacks, a touch too convoluted and confusing for a marketing manager to handle. Ongoing website administration and upgrades were beyond the capabilities of non-technical clients, which meant an administrator was required when things got tricky. If a non-technical client can’t completely self-manage their site, including content management and administration, it’s just not right to give it to them. They need to be in control of their own destiny, and since the release of WordPress 2.5, they are. The management interface just works. Upgrading WordPress and plugins is a one-click process. Technical expertise is no longer required, and anyone from a CEO to an intern can happily take control and manage both content and administration. Happy times.
Need a Hand? Let’s Talk
You probably already know I’m on tour (read: travelling the world for a while), so all of my WordPress gigs are via a remote working arrangement. You should be happy about this (no meetings!). It works so well for my existing clients, and it’ll work well for you too. Ready? Let’s start a conversation.

After spending the last couple of years building my ecommerce shop, I’ve realised for some time now that having a blog would be vital to the marketing of the site. I did look at Wordpress some time ago and got put off by the complexity. Having read yours and other (all bookmarked) I will be going ahead with it later this month.
Thanks and speak to you soon.
